Posted in the topic What's the single most important maintenance item to protect my Porsche transmission? in the Forum News and Announcements
    June 3, 2026 11:28 PM PDT

I just bought a 2019 Cayman with the PDK and I want to keep this car for a long time. I've heard horror stories about PDK failures costing 30k+. I want to be proactive. I'm looking for a shop that can help me protect your Porsche Dubai investment by doing the right maintenance at the right intervals. But I'm getting conflicting advice. Some say change the PDK fluid every 60k km, some say every 40k in Dubai heat. Some say do the filter every time, some say every other. What's the single most important thing I can do to avoid a catastrophic PDK failure? Is it the fluid changes? The adaptation resets? Not launching the car too hard? I'd love to hear from long term Porsche owners who have kept their PDK healthy for 150k km or more. What's your secret?

Posted in the topic The BMW specialist found a service bulletin that two other shops missed in the Forum News and Announcements
    June 3, 2026 11:01 PM PDT

My 2017 X5 had this weird transmission issue where it would sometimes refuse to downshift when going uphill. Two different independent BMW shops looked at it – both general German car places – and neither could figure it out. One suggested a full transmission rebuild. Then a friend told me about a dedicated BMW specialist Dubai that only works on BMWs. The owner there pulled up his internal system and found a technical service bulletin about a software glitch in certain ZF 8HP transmissions that exactly matched my symptoms. He did a software update and a transmission adaptation in about an hour. Total cost was under 800 dirhams. The problem is completely gone. I realized that a generalist might be fine for oil changes, but for tricky transmission issues you really need someone who lives and breathes BMW every single day. Anyone else had a problem that only a true specialist could solve?

Posted in the topic Does "certified" mean anything for a transmission oil change in Abu Dhabi? in the Forum News and Announcements
    June 3, 2026 10:35 PM PDT

I'm trying to be responsible and get the transmission fluid changed on my 2017 Q5 before any problems start. I've called a few places and one shop mentioned they have a Certified Oil Change Specialist Abu Dhabi on staff who only does transmission services. That sounds impressive but I honestly don't know if that's a real certification or just something they made up. Is there an actual training program or certificate for transmission oil changes specifically? Or is this just marketing speak? I don't want to overpay for a fancy title if it doesn't mean anything. But if it's legit, I'm happy to pay more for someone who actually knows the correct procedures for a ZF 8 speed. Can anyone explain what certifications actually exist in this field in the UAE? And how do I verify if someone is truly certified?

Posted in the topic The guy who rebuilt my S-tronic only works on Audi and VW gearboxes – and it shows in the Forum News and Announcements
    June 3, 2026 10:03 PM PDT

I had a really specific problem with my 2018 S4 where the transmission would occasionally refuse to shift into reverse unless I restarted the car. Very intermittent, no pattern, drove me crazy for months. I took it to three different general repair shops and none of them could figure it out. Finally found a workshop in Sharjah that has a Dedicated Transmission Specialist Sharjah who literally only works on Audi and Volkswagen dual clutch transmissions. His entire bay is just DSG parts, tooling, and service manuals. He diagnosed the issue as a failing reverse gear position sensor that was intermittent when hot. He replaced just that sensor and recalibrated everything. Total cost was under 1000 and the problem hasn't come back in two months. It's so refreshing to deal with someone who has such deep specific knowledge. I've learned my lesson – for transmission work, go to a transmission specialist, not a general mechanic. Anyone else had a similar experience where specialization made all the difference?

Posted in the topic Thinking of buying a used BMW M4 – anyone know a good pre purchase inspector in Dubai? in the Forum News and Announcements
    May 24, 2026 7:32 AM PDT

I've been searching for a 2017 M4 for months and finally found one that ticks all the boxes, but I'm nervous because I've heard about crank hub issues and rod bearing failures on the S55 engine. Before I hand over any cash, I really want to get a proper BMW Pre Purchase Inspection Dubai done by someone who knows these performance cars inside out. I need a mechanic who'll do a compression test, scan for overrevs and hidden fault codes, check the charge cooler for leaks, and put it on a lift to look for any suspension damage or accident repair. Has anyone here used an independent inspector they'd recommend for an M car? I don't mind paying extra for a thorough report, I just want to avoid buying a car that's been tracked without proper maintenance. Any recommendations would be hugely appreciated.
